1. What is Optical Transceiver?

by:Lxshow     2020-07-23

The Optical Module are compose of photoelectronic device, functional circuit and optical interface. According to the functions of optical modules, there have optical receiver module, optical transceiver module, optical fiber transceiver module, light forwarding module etc.

2. What is multimode fiber?

Multimode fiber is optical fiber that allows light to travel down multiple paths, also referred to as modes. It features a core diameter of 50 to 62.5 microns. Multimode fiber can be used to transmit AV signals in short to intermediate-distance applications, such as within a building.

3. What is singlemode fiber?

Singlemode fiber is optical fiber that allows light to travel down a single path known as the fundamental mode. It features a core diameter of 8 to 9 microns. Singlemode fiber can be used to transmit AV signals over extreme distances up to many miles or kilometers.

4. What is SFP transceiver?

SFP fiber optic transceiver can be regarded as the upgrade version GBIC, SFP is short for Small Form-factor Pluggables, unlike GBIC with SC fiber optic interfaces is with LC interface and the main body size of SFP is only about half of GBIC, which makes SFP space saving. Signal transmitting rate of these modules range from 100Mbps up to 4Gbps or more, working distance of these SFP transceiver modules can be from 500 meters to 100 kilo meters, working wavelength of different SFP modules are typically 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm, there are also CWDM type SFP transceivers available.

5. What is GBIC transceiver module?

GBIC is short for gigabit interface converter, it is a input/output transceiver used with one end to plug into a gigabit Ethernet port such as on the switches, the other end of the transceiver is to connect the fiber optic patch cords and link the fiber optic networks, thus GBIC modules function is to transform the signals between the Ethernet network and fiber optic network. GBIC classification is based on its working wavelength, data transmitting rate, working power, and the working distance. Generally GBIC fiber optic end the interface is SC type, the laser unit in GBIC module can be 850nm VCSEL, 1310nm FP, 1310nm DFB, and 1550nm DFB.

6. What is SFP Plus fiber optic transceiver?

Just as its name suggests, SFP plus is an upgraded version of the small form pluggable transceivers. SFP plus target at the application of 10Gbps Ethernet and 8.5Gbps Fibre channel, it is with more compact size and measurement than former X2, Xenpak and XFP, this enable SFP plus suitable for more dense installations. What is more, SFP plus is with lower power consumption for less than 1W and it is even cost effective. These transceivers are with managed digital optical monitoring and superior high temperature performance.

Several industrial acknowledged standards for SFP plus has been made for 10Gpbs networks, including 10Gbase-SR, which define the SFP plus transceiver working with OM3 10G multimode fiber at 30 to 300 meters range, 10Gbase-LR which define the SFP plus transceiver working with single mode fiber at 10km range, 10Gbase-LRM which define the FDDI multimode fiber at around 220 meters range.

7. What is XFP optic transceiver?

XFP transceiver is a small form factor hot pluggable module designed for 10G network applications including 10Gig Ethernet and fibre channel. XFP transceivers are with dual LC interface and the industrial acknowledged standards for XFP is called XFP MSA (Multi Source Agreement), which was founded by some industrial leading companies including Finisar, Tyco and JDSU.

XFP transceivers commercially available in the market now include the 10Gbase SR XFP, 10Gbase LR XFP, 10Gbase ER XFP and 10Gbase ZR XFP. These transceivers are with Digital Diagnostics that provide a powerful optical management tool. 10Gbase SR XFP is used with OM3 50/125 laser optimized multimode fiber with max working span around 300 meters. The other three standards are all for single mode fiber applications, 10Gbase LR XFP work with 1310nm SMF and max working distance 10km, 10Gbase ER XFP work with 1550nm SMF and working range max 40km, 10Gbase LR XFP is also 1550nm wavelength and working span is 80km max.

8. What is X2 transceiver?

X2 transceiver is the 10G fiber optic transceiver, its development was based on former Xenpak standards, X2 10gb transceiver inner function is almost similar with Xenpak, and X2 also can use one transceiver to fulfill all 10G Ethernet optical port function. X2 transceiver is about half size of Xenpak, this enable it suit for density installations. 10Gbps Ethernet standards were defined by IEEE in 2002, it not only enlarges the data transmission rate, but it has greater working distance. IEEE 802.3ae 10G Ethernet standard defined the working distance from 300 meters to 40km.

9. What is Xenpak transceiver module?

Xenpak transceiver module is one of the 10Gbps fiber optic transceiver modules. Xenpak transceiver is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.3ae standards for 10G Ethernet as required by Xenpak MSA. It is same at 121 x 36 x 18 mm (the biggest in 10G fiber transceiver modules); these modules typically weigh less than 300 g and with dual SC fiber interface.

10. What is copper optic module?

The copper transceiver includes transmit and receive two decision points, Radiating portion consists of laser circuit and optical maser, Receiving part consists of PIN, TIA and Limtiting Amp. Completion of the digital signal transparent O / E, the E / O conversion functions.

Please note:

Ingellen has a large quantity of fiber optic transceivers in stock and can ship the transceivers to you within 24 hours. All of the optical transceiver are tested in-house prior to shipping to insure that they will arrive in perfect physical and working condition.
